Bicycle Advertising

While I was in Houston this weekend I saw something pretty interesting that I had never seen before.

I have done a few Google searches for it and it looks like it’s not very common but there are some people doing it.

Bicycle advertising.

Basically construct a small trailer that you could pull behind a bicycle and have it rigged up so that you could sell advertising space on two sides of it, maybe even 3 or 4 sides.

I know this is not completely passive income like I’m hoping to achieve, but if I could go out and sell the advertising space then I could just hire someone to ride the bike around in a specified area for a few hours a day.

I haven’t worked out many specifics but so far I think I could just sell advertising at a competitive price. (I’ll have to research what a competitive price is.) I would basically just be winging it but I could offer to have the bike driven around just about any area of town that the advertiser would like.

Luckily I live in a college town so I could probably sell advertising space to people that are targeting students on campus. I figure bars, clubs, and apartments would probably be interested.

We also have a popular football team so I could have someone ride around the parking lots where people are tailgating and waiting in line to get in the stadium on game days.

I think there are a lot of opportunities to start something like this in my town. All I have to do is go out and sell some advertising space first. Unfortunately I have absolutely zero experience selling advertising. Not even too sure how I would go about this.

I’m sure I can learn though. :)

I’ll have to figure out the legalities of riding a bike around with advertising space on it. I’m sure Texas Tech would not like it if I was riding around campus with advertising space all day, but they might not be able to do anything about it.

I will keep you updated if I pursue this idea any further.

If you ask someone if you can ride around on a bike with advertising they’re going to say no. Just do it if you want to do it.

As far as actually selling. It’s something I have done before. Start with businesses you frequent and are a little familiar with. If you don’t have any like that, just start. Walk into the place, ask to speak to the owner, tell them what you have, ask for the sale. You’ll tweak as you go, but nothing beats actually doing it.

The consensus from everyone I have been told is the same thing. Just do it till someone tells me to stop.

As always Karol thanks for the extra push.
